2. Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is a town on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s known for its beaches and well-preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city. With so many things to do in Tulum, Mexico, it’s no wonder that this former sleepy fishing village has recently become of the most popular destinations on the planet. The main building is a large stone structure called El Castillo (castle), perched on a rocky cliff above the white sand beach and turquoise sea. Near the ruins is the Parque Nacional Tulum, a coastal area with mangroves and cenotes

Phuket City, on Phuket Island, is the capital of Thailand’s Phuket Province.  Phuket is the largest island in Thailand with a land area of approximately 540 square kilometers (roughly the size of Singapore.) A quarter of a million people call Phuket their home with most being either Thai or Chinese. In the Old Town, Thalang Road is lined with colorful 19th-century shophouses and Sino-Portuguese buildings. Built in 1903 by a wealthy tin merchant, Baan Chinpracha mansion has Italian floor tiles, shuttered windows and antique furniture. Set in a 1930s manor, the Thai Hua Museum has exhibits on Phuket’s culture and history.

5. Ubud (Bali), Indonesia

The town of Ubud, in the uplands of Bali, Indonesia, is known as a center for traditional crafts and dance. Ubud isn’t the kind of place where you need a long to-do list. None of the sights or activities are “must-dos”. If all you did during your stay was eat, walk through the rice fields, and perhaps get a massage or take a yoga class, then that’s a successful Ubud visit in my opinion. The surrounding Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes. Ancient holy sites include the intricately carved Goa Gajah (“Elephant Cave”) and Gunung Kawi, with its rock-cut shrines.

6. Vientiane, Laos

Xieng Khuan
“Vientiane is one of the most beautiful cities in the world” - said pretty much no one ever.
Vientiane, Laos' national capital, mixes French-colonial architecture with Buddhist temples such as the golden, 16th-century Pha That Luang, which is a national symbol. Along broad boulevards and tree-lined streets are many notable shrines including Wat Si Saket, which features thousands of Buddha images, and Wat Si Muang, built atop a Hindu shrine.

8. Galle, Sri Lanka

Galle is a coastal city 130 kilometres south of Colombo. There are two main areas to visit in Galle: the Galle Fort and Unawatuna. No visit to the south is complete without seeing both of these areas. Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It’s known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone sea walls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip.
